What we provide

Fire Extinguishers – Supply, Installation & Maintenance (via our Partner)

Choosing the right extinguisher

  • Site survey & specification – We assess building use, floor area, hazards (electrical, flammable liquids, cooking oil, lithium-ion charging etc.) and the findings of your FRA.

  • Supply, installation & commissioning – Wall mounting or high-quality stands, correct signage and tamper tags; units are commissioned on site per BS 5306-3.

  • Ongoing maintenance – Annual servicing and required extended service/overhaul at the correct intervals, with service labels and digital records for your fire safety logbook.

  • Staff training – Optional fire extinguisher familiarisation or fire marshal training so staff know when and how to use equipment safely.

  • Replacement & upgrades – Swap non-compliant or unsuitable units (e.g., old powder in offices) for modern, lower-mess alternatives.

Choosing the right extinguisher

Maintenance, servicing and legal duties

Choosing the right extinguisher

  • Class A (solids: wood, paper, textiles) – Water or AFFF foam.

  • Electrical risks – CO₂ is common; foam/water dielectric-tested models can be appropriate in some scenarios.

  • Class B (flammable liquids) – Foam (AFFF) or dry powder (with care).

  • Class F (cooking oils/fats) – Wet chemical near commercial kitchens.

  • Lithium-ion charging areas – Management controls first (from your FRA); then discuss specialist media and segregation, signage and procedures.

Every building is different; we’ll align the mix to your Fire Risk Assessment and daily operations so you aren’t over- or under-equipped.

Maintenance, servicing and legal duties

Maintenance, servicing and legal duties

Maintenance, servicing and legal duties

The Responsible Person must ensure that extinguishers are maintained in efficient working order. We’ll set up an annual service plan to BS 5306-3, perform extended service or overhaul at the correct intervals, and provide evidence for insurers and enforcing authorities. If your FRA identifies management issues (blocked access, missing seals, moved units), we’ll help you fix them quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@dc2fire.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

It depends on your risks and layout. As a baseline, most premises need Class A coverage (water or foam) and a suitable option for electrical risks (often CO₂). Kitchens with deep-fat fryers require wet chemical; workshops with flammable liquids may need foam or dry powder (with careful consideration). We’ll specify to BS 5306-8 and align everything with your Fire Risk Assessment so the mix is proportionate and compliant.

Numbers and locations are based on floor area, travel distances and risk areas. As a rule of thumb, provision for Class A should ensure reasonable travel distance to an extinguisher, with units located on escape routes and near exits and additional units near specific hazards (server rooms, plant, kitchens). We’ll calculate provision to BS 5306-8, fit ID signage, and document it in your records.

All extinguishers need annual servicing to BS 5306-3 by a competent technician, plus extended service/overhaul at defined intervals (e.g., discharge test/extended service for water/foam/powder at set years; CO₂ cylinders undergo periodic overhaul). We’ll schedule visits, label each unit, and keep your logbook up to date. Monthly in-house visual checks (caps, pins, gauges, access) should also be recorded.

ABC powder is versatile but creates visibility and respiratory issues indoors and can contaminate equipment. For offices, shops, schools and public areas we typically recommend water-mist, foam, or CO₂ (as appropriate) instead. If your FRA shows specific risks that justify powder, we’ll position and sign it carefully and brief staff accordingly.
